Troubleshoot Circuit Breakers

How To Fix Your Circuit Breaker

If your circuit breaker tripped, you don’t need to call us immediately. To prevent fire or electrocution the breaker will cut the electricity off. This usually means you have overloaded the system with your appliances. The first thing you should do is try to reset a circuit breaker on your own.

  • Turn off all light switches and unplug appliances in the room that has lost power.
  • Then you have to find the circuit breaker and identify the breaker that has tripped. This is usually a small switch in the off position. Turn it on.

While this is the simplest solution it doesn’t mean it is a long-term one. If the same breaker re-trips, you could have too many lamps and appliances plugged in, maybe you have a damaged cord or a short circuit somewhere. Now you should identify the problem.

If all of this seems a bit overwhelming you could contact us and we will solve your problem. However, there is one more thing you could do before that. Check if there is a certain item that causes the breaker to trip. Check that by plugging appliances one by one.

Your problem could also be the overall amount of appliances and lights. If you want to use more of them in a certain room you could hire us to run additional circuits to that area.

In general, Breaker and Fuses are used to protect your home once flow exceeds safe levels. If for example, your microwave has a short circuit, the breaker will trip to protect the wiring in the walls from melting.

Contact us if you need help or something done on your breakers and fuses. As an important addition to your house safety, you should not neglect them.
